As you probably guess it's based on the mario and sonic olympic games. The idea sprang randomly. Make a oc charrie for each world. Sega(sonic) and nintendo(mario). Even though nintendo owns sega...but that doesn't matter. you can have more than two oc charries but having two would probably be easier.
